A MORNING WITH JOHAN GRIMONPREZ
09:30-11:00 Wednesday 20.03, Social Cinema, Kunsthal Charlottenborg
JOHAN GRIMONPREZ excels at directing film essays bringing together key historical moments and cultural elements. Grimonprez, who reached international acclaim with Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y (1997), tracing the history of airplane hijacking as portrayed by mainstream television media and exploring the Cold War and the films of Alfred Hitchcock with Double Take (2009), comes back with a timely story in Soundtrack to a Coup d’État (2024), winner of the Special Jury Award for Cinematic Innovation at Sundance, and now screening at CPH:DOX. With his new film as a starting point, he will explore the relationship between music and politics, how to observe it on film as well as what it means to portray civil rights and decolonization in today’s context.
